To Campus Administrators, Representatives from the Student Conduct Board, and Campus Community:
Chancellor Larive threatened graduate students with unwarranted discipline, including student conduct violations. To be clear, the allegations are related to duties associated with employment and therefore it is inappropriate for the University to pursue student conduct disciplinary procedures. You can find a letter from the president of UAW 2865 to Jennifer Schiffner attached.
Chancellor Larive and the student conduct office must cease and desist in their investigation of student conduct violations associated with withholding of grades. The university must rescind any student conduct summons associated with allegations related to withholding grades.
I am prepared to file a grievance for any graduate student who has received a student conduct summons based on an allegation associated with their role as an Academic Student Employee (TA, GSI, tutors, and readers). Any ASE who has received a summons may contact me for further support and any ASE whose summons is not rescinded by January 31 should contact me about filing a grievance.
Signed,
Veronica Hamilton
