Student-Worker-Power Rally
January 9, 2020 @ 4:00 am
The Administration refuses to meet with graduate students and student workers to negotiate a COLA. Instead of settling this matter, they are attempting to intimidate graduate strikers with misconduct violations and nebulous threats of retaliation. In the most recent emails sent to undergraduates by Academic Advisors and EVC Lori Kletzer, it has become clear that the University’s strategy is to break the strike by confusing and misleading undergraduate students about potential impacts.
We are gathering for a MASSIVE Student-Worker-Power rally at 12pm, Thursday 9th January, outside of Kerr Hall. We need everyone to SHOW UP! There, we will tell administration: undergraduates will NOT be the wedge that breaks this strike. Undergraduates support this strike. We don’t ask TAs for our grades; rather, we ask administration to pay their workers a living wage!
This strike does not harm undergraduate students. This grading strike energizes us and reaffirms that we too can fight for–and win–the kind of university we want. It empowers us to make and advance our own demands: for free tuition, liveable and affordable housing, cops off campus, resources for undocumented students, and more! It empowers AFSCME workers who are still without a contract, and who have undergraduate support! Together, we have power! Students and workers RUN UC!
